18ct French Diamond and Pearl Toi Et Moi Ring c. 1880’s
Dainty and darling!
Crafted circa 1880’s in a delightful 18 carat pink gold, this French Diamond and Pearl ring is a wonderful Napoleon III example. Toi et Moi rings like this were a classic mainstay of this aesthetic period; in fact, they first gained popularity in 1796 when Napoleon Bonaparte gifted one as a gift to his wife, Empress Josephine.
This particular example is just as radiant as the one we imagine Josephine might have had! Just look at that craftwork: the 18 carat gold band transitions nicely into the sterling, creating a perfect setting for this delicate arrangement of miniature rose-cut diamonds.
The diamonds halo the two stars of the show: the sizable brilliant cut diamond nestled next to a lovely natural pearl stone. The juxtaposition of these two stones creates a wonderful, romantic silhouette – exemplifying the “Toi et Moi” (French for “You and Me”) ethos.
A delightful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
