14ct Late Georgian 16.5” Garnet Dinner Necklace with Chitter Chain
An extremely rare late Georgian dinner necklace, this garnet jewel possesses a special auditory secret! Constricted utilizing not only a beautiful garnet medallion, but of a chitter chain! The “chitter” chain was named as such for the lovely chittering sound it makes as the wearer moves! This is a very rare example, I’ve only had one other.
The chitter is elusive; They are so light, and dent so easily— most haven’t withstood the test of time, they were crushed, melted, or destroyed. To find an all original dinner necklace such as this with the addition of the garnet, and the clasp intact, is truly remarkable. That said! She is not without some scars of time 🥀 see condition for full report! Overall an extremely rare find!
