10k Australian Opal and Bohemian Garnet Ring Circa 1890
The Art Nouveau period drew inspiration from the beauty of nature, focusing on the curves of flora and fauna or reproducing forms such as dragonflies, birds, leaves, and flowers. Art Nouveau is significant to the history of jewelry design because the movement saw it as an art form, considering the decorative arts were united with fine art. This period in jewelry incorporated Japanese art and metalwork and moved away from diamonds toward colored gemstones such as opal – which brings us to this gorgeous ring.Â
This piece features a center opal that bursts with orange, green, and lilac colors, as well as chunky, deep red garnets that hug and compliment the opal. The shoulders on this band boast stunning millgrain detailing, making this ring the whole package!
